Microstutters & Crashes at KSNA

Post by Eefoe » Sun Apr 26, 2020 1:20 am

Hi,

I recently bought KSNA and am experiencing bizarre behavior:
  • The first time I loaded into KSNA with the default C172, the sim crashed immediately when the loading bar hit 100%. (Event viewer says it's a crash in the MSVCR80.dll)
  • The second time, I had actually loaded up at KLGB and flew the default C172 to KSNA. As I got closer, I noticed that the framerate drop was acting bizarre:
The framerate I was getting was ~100fps outside the area, but as I got closer it dropped to ~30. This was normal, but when I was close enough for the whole airport to load, it was doing this weird thing:
  1. Framerate of ~30FPS for ~5-10 seconds
  2. Framerate devolved into 3 frames and then pause for a quarter second, 3 frames then pause, 3 frames then pause, etc. etc. etc. for ~5-10 seconds
Eventually the sim ran out of memory and crashed

I don't know what the issue is. I have Orbx Global and VECTOR, but that's it; the next closest addon scenery is all the way in San Francisco.

Do you have any idea what's causing this issue? This addon was installed on a relatively clean FSX:SE installation, and there's nothing else I can think of that may be causing this other than the default windows antivirus? No other programs are taxing the GPU or CPU during this issue.

Specs:
  • Windows 10
  • 64 GB RAM
  • Ryzen 7 3800X (overclocked ~10%)
  • GeForce GTX2070 SUPER

Hi,

No, I don't have Orbx Socal. I'll try renaming the LC file (to .bg#) later, though, and see how it goes.

Funny enough, I tried loading SNA up before doing so just so I can get a before/after comparison of performance, and the stuttering was gone before I did anything.

In between then and now, I did the following that might have made a difference?
  • Restarted my computer...?
  • Removed static aircraft in the LVFR Configurator
  • Selected dynamic jetways in LVFR configurator
  • Forced W10 to start FSX as an administrator
  • Added the entire steam directory to Windows Security exclusions
