First Flight Attempt - Bugs Kept me on the Ground

Post by ANITIX87 » Fri May 10, 2024 3:14 pm

Just tried my first flight in the A340-300 from Tenerife. Quite a few bugs kept me on the ground:

Pushback and Taxi problems (using EFB controls):
  • Directional controls do not work, except for backwards
  • With parking brake set, aircraft still slowly moves backwards
  • Cannot disconnect tug
  • Plane does not taxi forward even at full thrust. Nose wheel steering is turning, so the keybind is correct
General Bugs
  • Slew mode on the ground (to change gates, for example) results in the aircraft thinking it's in the air (in some cases, results in landing gear retracting even with controls not moving).
  • METAR does not pull correct barometer setting when syncing in the calculations page
  • FLPN MCDU page does not show departure airport as first waypoint. Clicking on the first waypoint DOES bring up the Departure page, but it should typically show the origin/runway first, no?
  • PROG page doesn't show optimal FL or other information (this may be because I didn't get into the air).

As for pushback, did you follow the steps in the tutorial for that?

we don't recommend using slew at all.

as for the METAR will check

as for the airport, it should show for example LEMD36L like on the tutorial, are you doing the FP manually?

as for PROG page, that's something that will come with later updates.

Thanks for the quick response, I'm sure today is quite stressful and exciting for you with a new release!

Yes, I followed the steps outlined therein. I released parking brake, called the tug, and then once it was moving, I was unable to turn the aircraft. Then I pressed the arrow to stop the plane, put on the brake, and nothing happened when I hit DISCONNECT.

I understand slew mode is a last-resort, but I logged into VATSIM and then someone loaded in after me at the same gate, and was not responsive to messages, so I tried changing gates. On occasion, slew mode is useful.

Seems to have been an issue for some of the sneak peek streamers as well, not sure why. It imports the winds and temperature correctly.

I was taking off from GCTS, and using SimBrief import for the flightplan. Along similar lines, I am unable to change the TROPO value or get winds of any kind into the MCDU.

Good to know, thanks!

Will look into the pushback.
Can you please copy/paste the flight plan for me as I will test out to see what I get.

I tried it again on another flight from a different airport and had the same problem with pushback. However, this time, the METAR sync did NOT pull correct wind or temperature information. On the positive side, the FLPN page DID correctly show LGRP/24 as the first entry this time.

Here are the two flights I tried:

GCTS/07 N0480F350 KONB1W KONBA UN866 BEXAL DCT ETUGO DCT PINEK DCT LOTEE DCT AZFIC UN741 NTS DCT GONEK DCT TABOV UN858 VALEK UM163 DIK T856 NIVNU T847 IMCOM IMCO1D EDDF/07R

LGRP/24 N0458F360 VANE2M VANES UM601 ADESO UN133 RIGRO DCT FSK UL608 DISOR DCT LONTA UL608 DOLEV DCT LURID DCT BEDOX DCT SIMBA DCT AKINI T161 DEBHI DEBH1D EDDF/07R

I tried again, and had a slightly different experience, though still couldn't depart.

I was able to pushback and make one turn (though I had to click the Turn button 3 or 4 times). Then I was able to go straight back and end pushback (though I didn't realize you could only make ONE turn, unless that's an issue, too). However, once the aircraft stopped, the tug disconnected briefly and disappeared from the screen, but the plane kept moving backwards (creeping slowly with the parking brake on, or moving at normal pushback speed with the brake off). Once again, I wasn't able to fix it by hitting the Disconnect option and could not taxi forward.

OK, another update. I gave up on the pushback issue because nothing I try fixes it, even last night's update. I used GSX to at least make sure I could get going.

Here is what I encountered *since the new update*:
  • When applying a little bit of throttle (to taxi, for example), the N1 value jumps way past what I want and then settles down.
  • On takeoff, the plane went nose-up at around 70kts, without lifting off, and I had to go full forward-stick to keep the nosewheel down.
  • I was unable to add/modify/delete altitude and speed restrictions on waypoints in the flight plan on the MCDU: it didn't even pull up that menu when clicking the buttons on the side of the screen.
  • When tabbing out of the game, to another application, normally all MSFS game sound stops. However, the wind noise continues, and is very loud.
  • I had the usual premature flare on landing, it is not improved, despite the update. Also, after touchdown, with neutral stick input, the aircraft remains very nose-high.

Hi, will investigate all of this. But about flight performance we are finishing the second update addressing most of it.

As for waypoints all of that will be addessed on the avionics update.
