KBWI Runway selection by ATC

Post by scotth6 » Sat Feb 16, 2019 2:50 pm

Hi,

I just purchased KBWI a few days ago, and it is great. Thankyou.

I just wonder why ATC will only allow me to depart or arrive on runway 28 or runway 33R? No other runway is available.

Cheers,

Hi, in real world operations of KBWI,

west ops are:

rwy 28 departure

33R for general aviation

rwy 33L arrivals
rwy 33R for general aviation arrivals

East ops

rwy 15R departure
rwy 15L departure for general aviation

rwy 10 arrivals

and rwy 15L for general aviation arrivals.

due to the limitations of FS this might get complicated, we can offer opening all runways if you wish. email us if you would like that

Hi Ricardo,

Thanks for the quick reply.

It's not a huge deal as I can obviously land or depart from runway 33L anyway, despite not having clearance. I have learned to ignore FSX/P3D ATC anyway :D .

I was just wondering because the past two days I have flown in with the NGX and the runway on my Simbrief flight plan was 15R, and then 33L yesterday. Each time ATC has assigned a different runway (28 at first, then when I tried to ask for a different runway only 33R was available). The only issue with 33R is that it is a lot shorter than 33L.

As I say though it's not a big deal. Congratulations on a really great scenery.

Cheers,

thank you for your comments,

and as fellow simmer who also uses simbrief and wants to replicate reality, I suggest anytime you plan departures/arrivals out of an airport check out flightaware.com and that airport, it can help guide you to simulate reality as closely as possible.

I have been using simbrief a lot and on the departure/arrival runways they seem to hit and miss many times.

Thanks Ricardo.

It's funny, I actually use Flightaware and Simbrief to plan my flights, but choice of runway is something I always left to Simbrief. I look at everything else on Flightaware; time of departure, airline, flight number, registration, gate number, cruise altitude. I will check out the departure and arrival runways from now on.

Cheers,

sure no problem.

in fact on a particular day if you are doing the flight plan simbrief offers might differ significantly from the one flightaware has for that particular flight on that day... due to weather or any other event on that specific day, because simbrief might use one from the day before or another time...
