A330 suddenly drops out of the sky right before landing!

Post by iPerineum » Wed Jan 17, 2024 11:24 pm

My A330 suddenly drops out of the sky from about 40 feet above the runway. It obviously slams into the runway with tremendous force causing the airplane to bounce. This has happened on every landing so far and it's incredibly frustrating. It feels as if the aircraft abruptly loses its lift.

I use the addon on the Xbox Series X. I generate the flight plan on Simbrief (A339 LatinVFR profile). All flight supports are switched off in MSFS. I have also watched the LatinVFR tutorial video several times and cannot find my error.

On Reddit a user reports the same problem, the solution found there concerning the autothrottle did not work for me.

My landing configuration:
- Speed: 140
- Flaps: Full
- Autopilot: Off
- Auto throttle: Off

I would be very grateful for any advice, or if any of you have noticed the same flaw. :?: :)

Hi,

firstly the landing speeds are calculated on the plane based on weight. So you are already defining 140 as your speed, that's arbitrarily setting a speed that is not based on the aircraft weight. You might be right, but you might also be wrong. I suggest you check on the PERF page and approach part what's the landing speed. The video

Second, if you are flying without auto throttles, you need to keep the speed which can be challenging. On the video he shows that you idle the thrust when you hear "retard", at that moment auto throttles are disabled, that allows for a smooth touchdown, whereas you come in with idle thrust way before it tells you to retard causing what you describe.

So we suggest you let the auto throttle control the speed 'managed' not set, as in the video and idle the thrust when you hear 'retard'

It takes practice
